Tynemouth Crime Prevention Panel are a voluntary organisations, and one of 15 who work in close liaison with Northumbria Police, with a strong belief in the community and improving the quality of life in the area, in which members live or work. Panel membership is made up of a wide range of professionals and volunteers, including councillors Town Centre and Shopping Centre Managers, Neighbourhood Watch, Commerce, Special Constabulary, and Representatives from the local Police. The current panel was formed at the end of 1996 and has already proven itself to be a highly proactive and effective organisation at reducing crime and the fear of crime in this area. Successful Initiatives to date include:- "Over 18 Scheme" - for licensed premises, by providing financial backing for reducing licensing, violence, disorder and other related offences. "Exclusion Notice Scheme" - involving over 130 retail establishments throughout the area in the common purpose of reducing retail crime and violence. One of the first in Northumbria force and copied by many other area commands. "Security Information Centre" a dedicated room within North Shields Police Station where the public can get hands-on expert Crime Prevention advice. "Car Park Crime" - a public awareness and crime reduction initiative. "Security Concept Shed" - another public awareness and crime reduction initiative involving major retail establishments in the area.......................and last, but not least - "Vehicle 25 Watch"- a highly publicised and proactive car crime reduction initiative, the first of its kind in the Northumbria Police area. |
